DSTV
• safeguards the trade's interests vis à vis political, administrative and scientific
bodies and other institutions and associations, the aim being to encourage con-
struction in steel and to open up new markets
• brings its influence to bear in the German committee for constructional steelwork
(Deutscher Ausschuß für Stahlbau - DASt) on both technological and scientific
developments
• is represented on the technical, economic and market promoting bodies of the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS).

    
Advisory and other services
DSTV
• provides regular information and advice on new trends and technologies in steel construction engineering
• takes an active part in national and European standardization work
• deals in professional committees and study groups with such topical issues as the use of EDP systems, fire and corrosion protection, aspects of manufacture and erection, composite construction; findings are translated into guidance data; personal consultancy can be provided upon request
• initiates research and development projects and publishes results
• prepares reports on the state of the economy, current economic data, intra-industrial studies, ratio analyses, etc.; for legal issues it provides guidance data
• offers its members an extensive training programme tailored to the needs of the sector, with seminars on composite steel construction, project management, master erector training, acquisition and sales, building law and contract awarding regulations
• advises members in public relations and target group-related advertising activities, and realizes such activities upon request.

Public Relations
DSTV
• acquaints the public at trade fairs and trade conferences with the achievements in the struc-tural steel sector; joint advertising successfully highlights the benefits of constructional steelwork
• informs the public and members using such channels as press conferences, press releases, publications in trade magazines and the regular organs "Stahlbau-Nachrichten" and "DSTV intern"
• gives awards to architects, engineers and students in recognition of outstanding achievements in steel construction through its collaboration with universities and technical colleges promotes young academics
